If you’d be asked who will win the Premier League this season, it’s not very likely that Arsenal would be your answer, unless you’re an Arsenal-supporter. However, we could see Arsenal becoming the surprise of the season. In this blog, we’ll explain exactly why.
Stability in the back
Arsenal have struggled to create stability in the back for quite a while now. Every year, the defenders that were brought in, seemed to underperform, creating massive problems. This year, this problem seems to have been tackled, with some quality signings in Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Gabriel. Arsenal also brought in a new goalkeeper, in Aaron Ramsdale. Due to all these transfers, Arsenal have seemed to create a steady backline, that could perform surprisingly well in the Premier League.
No European football
Another massive factor which could lead to a successful Arsenal season, is the fact that last season wasn’t successful at all. Because of this bad season, Arsenal missed out on European football, which gives them a lot more rest days this year. The Premier League is the busiest league in the league world, with a lot of games planned on weekdays, combined with several cups being played through the season. Having a season without any European football, might give Arsenal the time to rest players for important games; time that other title contenders simply don’t have.
The youngsters stepping up
We already mentioned Arsenals defensive youngsters earlier in this blog, but we can’t miss out on writing about Arsenals brilliant attacking youngsters either. Arsenal managed to sign Martin Ødegaard from Real Madrid this summer, who will play in a midfield together with Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe. This midfield offers a lot of creativity; all that’s needed is a quality striker to finish these given chances off. Of course, Arsenal have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for this, but there’s another youngster waiting for his chance in Martinelli as well. If all these youngsters get enough time to develop, Arsenal could have a serious attacking threat for this entire season.
