Visiting Alabama: 3 Attractions You Don’t Want To Miss

A trip to the South isn’t complete without stopping in Alabama. The state has some great attractions, no matter what your interests are, that you won’t want to miss.

1. Mobile Bay

Located along the Gulf of Mexico, Mobile Bay has plenty to offer. Coastal cities like Gulf Shores offer relaxation and sandy beaches. Nature preserves allow you time to explore the great outdoors. It is also home to Dauphin Island, where you can enjoy the best of nature and deep sea fishing Mobile Bay has to offer. With all the fun family-friendly activities, you can spend your entire Alabama vacation right here along the bay.

There is more to Mobile than just beaches and nature. Military buffs will enjoy spending time at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile. In addition to the battleship, you can see a variety of aircraft and the WWII submarine, the USS Drum.

2. Civil Rights Trail

If you prefer to learn and be inspired, there is no shortage of Civil Rights monuments in the state. Birmingham is home to The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute that highlights local and national events of the 1960s. The Civil Rights Trail has several stops between Selma and Montgomery, and you can spend several days visit the museums and memorial in place along the route.

3. U.S. Space and Rocket Center

If space travel and science are more to your liking, be sure to stop at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville. You can tour exhibits that include actual rockets and launch vehicles, watch an IMAX presentation, and tour replicas of the International Space Station. Perhaps the center’s biggest attractions, however, are the adult and youth simulators that allow users to feel what it is like to launch into orbit.
